In the story, Treasure in the Attic, the characters in the past and present faced hard decisions. In the past during the great depression, their great grandma had faced the decision of whether or not she should give her pearl earrings to her friend Anna Snow because they had been in debt and if they had sold the earrings it could of helped them. The problem was that those earrings had been her wedding gift. Then in the present Liz faced the hard decision of whether or not to sell great grandmas pearl earrings to earn the 25 dollars she needs to get the new bike she wanted. The problem for this one was that the earrings were a family heirloom. These were the hard decisions the characters in the past and present had to make.
