Second, if a student has a stomachache, sugar will help cleanse it. Third, they are very good to sell for fundraisers. For example, Palaurino's Science Camp fundraisers would have probably made more money and quicker. Finally, even if this might sound unusual, some students have sugar in their diet. No matter how much sugar they do not eat, they still need at least a candy per day. I am sure that there are more reasons, but I did my best.
