In the beginning of the story, a boy applied to an art college in New York City (NYC)
That offered two week courses to middle school students. He got accepted and went to stay with his aunt and her family in New York City (NYC). Though he did not enjoy the city, art was a distraction from it. On the subway, the boy met Ken’s friends and they offered to take him to look at graffiti. When they went to see, he was surprised to see amazing colors and artwork. He then learned that inspiration can come from different places.

When he went it was crowded when he went to college and painted the artist teaching them liked his painting but one of his teachers told him to go to the modern art museum. Then they went and the boy got more ways to be creative with his drawing and proud of it ! on the way back the cousins friends was on the subway and told him to do graffiti with him but he had a bad perception with graffiti but when they told him it was legal and looked around he got why people liked it .

At the beginning, of ,”Writing On the Wall” the narrator lived in the country in the town of Allen Crossing, Indiana. He applied to an art school in New York City. He then went on the subway and thought very negatively of New York. Then he went to his art school and was able to create paintings. He went to the museum and saw new styles of art. Next, his cousin asked to see his sketchbook and said that the art reminded him of graffiti. After, his cousin’s friends showed him a legal graffiti exhibit space at a run down factory. In the end, he learned that what drives one person crazy can inspire another persons art.

In “The Writing on the Wall”, the main character, the narrator, at first thinks that true artists are only inspired by nature, since that is what inspires him. In the beginning, he applies to an art college in New York City and is accepted. He begins to question his choice while riding on the crowded subway. However, his art lessons make him feel better and more at home. Next, he visits a museum and learns new art techniques while there. In the middle of the story, the narrator’s art is complimented by his cousin Ken. He tells the narrator that his art looks like graffiti, which confuses him. From his point of view, graffiti is illegal, unreadable scrawl. Then, Ken introduces him to Myles, LeShawn, and Pete, and they take the narrator to a legal graffiti exhibit space. He is stunned by the art depicting New York at the exhibit space, and he learns that inspiration is different for everyone. Finally, he returns home with a new respect for art.

    The writing on the wall
l At the beginning, the narrator thought that the quiet countryside was better than the concrete world, New York City. However, throughout the story, his perspective changes because inspiration can be different for everyone like how Myles and his friends got inspiration from the city and made graffiti instead of painting the countryside in Indiana, Allen.

In the beginning, the narrator starts off in the country applying to an art college just to to put up his portfolio against other young artists. He found inspiration only from nature. Evidence from the story is “The beauty and drama of nature have always what drives me to create art.” In the middle of the story, the narrator and his cousin’s friends show him a place for graffiti art that he doesn’t think is art. Evidence from the story is, “As far as I was concerned, art was not made with spray paint.” At the end of the story, the narrator can make art from anything and get inspiration from anywhere and accepts the city.

Boy has lived in indiana his whole life then he gets accepted to an art school is NYC. He thought the city was dirty, crowded and loud. He stays with his aunt and older cousin. When he goes to his first art class his teacher asks him to loosen up his work and go to the museum. After he goes to the museum he meets some of his cousins friends. They take him to a leagull graffiti center, his thoughts about graffiti is that its messy, not art, and illegal. But his perspective changed when he realized that graffiti can be art, and be an inspiration. What he learned that summer was that what drives one person crazy can be the thing that drives another person to create. As a young artist he was experiencing new forms of art.

    The Writing on the wall
At the beginning, he used to think that all true artists get inspiration from nature. Then he went to N.Y.C and something happened that really made him rethink that idea. The city was loud, crowded, and kind of unfriendly. He couldn't “imagine being creative in a bustling, concrete world.” Also, he was so used to the quiet countryside. There he could just let the sights inspire him by letting it seep gently into his awareness. A little while before he left N.Y.C. he was on the subway with his cousin when his cousin asked to see his sketchbook he liked it. Suddenly some of his cousins friends saw the sketch book and told him that the art in the sketch book looks like great graffiti. When they got off the subway and saw the “The Writing on the Wall” he realized the Writing on the Wall was art, not just a sloppy mess. So his perspective changed from the art in N.Y.C was Writing on the Wall and it is now art to him.

At the beginning of the story “Writing on the Wall” boy felt that inspiration came from nature because he lived in a small town in Indiana. Next his perception of NYC is that it is a loud, huge, and giant concrete forest. In the middle boy tries a new art style which gives him new movement in his art, but he still finds inspiration in nature. At the end, Boy gets invited to go to the LEGAL graffiti exhibit and now understands people can find inspiration anywhere
