    The Johnstown Flooding
The people of Johnstown responded to the flooding by helping the people. Their response was swift, and people started to send money, food, and clothing. The Red Cross helped the survivors by helping them survive the aftermath of the flooding. Many people tried to blame the South Fork Club for the incident, and Johnstown even sued, but was ruled that it was an accident and no money was given. One club member ,Andrew Carnegie, even donated 10,000 dollars and rebuilt the town library. Even though other club members kept silent and didn’t help. It took the government for a whole other flood to happen until finally re-routing the rivers to help prevent future floods. This did not work however and Johnstown had another major flood in 1977. This caused many to leave and many businesses to be shut down. The people of Johnstown overcame the challenge of responding to the flooding with help from many others.

The people of Johnstown showed great tenacity. After the 1977 flood, many people moved away from Johnstown. Business was not thriving in Johnstown anymore because many people moved away. in later years, people built stronger dams and had emergency plans just in case the dam broke. They identify weaknesses of the dam and try to fix them. Today Johnstown is prepared for another flood

  18. The people of Johnstown overcame the challenge of the flood. I know this because in the text “ The Day the Dam Broke “ states “ Response was swift as news spread people around the world sent money, food, and clothing. The recently created Red Cross arrived to help survivors. Most of the town wanted to sue the Fork Fishing and Hunting club. And so they did to sue them. But they got no money from suing them. After the flood some people that were part of the club donated money. The text states “ Some club members contributed to relief efforts. Andrew Carnegie donated 10,000, and rebuilt the town’s library. “ The text also states “ The federal government paid to have the river rerouted.” The town just got rebuilt as something terrible was right around the corner. Another flood had hit. Almost 12 inches of water. In this disaster 6 dams burst and poured 128 million gallons of water. During this time many people had moved, and businesses had closed for good. The text also states “ Today, key activities help reduce the danger to Johnstown. The National Weather Service sponsors a flood watches program, and studies are done to identify weakness in the flood protection systems. But there is also an emergency plan, just in case the waters overrun Johnstown again. The people of Johnstown had reacted amazingly. Hopefully the town of Johnstown does not have to go through this experience again.

People of Johnstown responded to the challenges of flooding by showing great tenacity. I know this because in the text " The Day the Dam Broke ".It all started when I man named Ruff bought the dam. he had turned it into a club with fishing. He had changed some of the thing that had held up dam. So it burst. But they had much help to come over this challenge. The text states " Response was swift as news spread around the world sent money, food, clothing. The recently created Red Cross arrived to help survivors. Most of the town wanted to sue the South Fork Fishing and Hunting Club." And so they did. But they got no money out of suing them. 19. In 1977 people from Johnstown Pennsylvania went through a hard time because a flood happened in their town. During this flood the people had lost their homes, business, property, and probably family or friends. This was hard for them, but after people began to donate and give stuff that was needed for them. For example, money, clothing, food, blankets, and anything else people could give to help out. The Red Cross also came along and helped out the ones most injured or sick and then with the ones that weren’t that bad. After a man named Andrew Carnegie donated $ 10,000 and rebuilt the towns library. Today The National Weather Service sponsors a flood watchers incase another flood comes along. Now Johnstown tries to figure out plans so that not another flood strikes the town as the others did.
