In the story “Roman Diary” written by Richard Platt provides lots of information of what life was like for slaves in Rome. In the first part of the story, Iliona and her brother, Apollo were being sold as slaves. They both got picked but they were separated from each other. A while into the story, Iliona met up with Apollo again but he was not the same. His clothes were dirty and he had a scar around his ankle. That tells me that life for slaves in Rome was very hard because they had no food, no clean clothes, barely no food, and had chains around their ankles. So in all, life was pretty hard for slaves living in Rome.

    1. Great start Darryl! Life for Apollo was very hard, but Iliona's life was pretty easy. So, the life of slaves in Ancient Rome depended on where they worked.

  2. In the story “Roman diary” by Richard platt gives information about how live was like as slaves in rome. For example When lliona and her family sail to egypt from there greek home in matilini they were attacked by pirates and her parents bye so lliona and her brother where slaves in greek. Then she remembers that her mom gave her ink, pen and papyrus so she made what we call her diary. When she got to rome the siblings were separated and now lliona is a tutor for a family and apollo is a worker in the vineyards they were very sad about how they needed to be seperated. One day they were able to meet each other but apollo was bruised and had a big chain mark on one of his ankle he was only allowed to talk if is master nodded or gave him a single he was only allowed to say i'm fine and they treat him well or he’ll say i miss you in greek. They soon meet but only for a little while until the dogs started barking. One day there was a fire but the only thing she remembers is that she ran to save the baby. Then the master byes but the will is very thoughtful is says that the sibling can be reunited and out of slavery but she changed it up a bit and said that she will live with them and so will her brother and live a happy life.

In the story ¨Roman Diary¨ slavery was different. It was different because Ilione and her brother Apollo were sold to different people which made them both sad. But Ilione became a tutor to teach a baby and had a good time because In the text it states she had a nice house could sleep when ever she wanted and got food also she got clothes. But Apollo life was way different first he lied because the bailiff told him to.But then he sent Ilione a note on a bone and it said¨Come to our huts in 2 nights. The he told her what happens that they eat bread and olives and work eight days for every nine at dawn until dusk. But then a fire started and a baby was left inside the burning house then Ilione ran in and saved the baby. Then in the text it states that Ilione can get paid for working and she can be with her brother. In all slavery was way different back then.

In the book romen diary by Richard platt and illustrated by David Parkins life as a slave was ether easy or hard.when Iliona was sold as a slave she was sold to a family to toter the girls. For her life was easy she had food, shelter, clothing and protection. Iliona wanted to run away but where could she run to because she didn't know were to go in rome. Iliona brother apollo didn't have the same luck as she did. Apollo had to do hard work and he didn't get lots of privileges like he had to wait until someone said he could talk. Apollo didn't even get clean clothing and he worked 8 hours a day, and only got bread and olives to eat. So as you can see depending how bought you is how your life is going to be.

Life in Rome for slaves could be both fun or torturing like Iliona and Apollo, The journal of Iliona explains that they were attacked by pirates, there parents were killed and Iliona and Apollo were sold as slaves in Rome. Iliona had to work as a tutor because she was very fluent in Greek and Latin while Apollo was sold and had to work in the vineyards. Iliona thought it be really bad being a slave but she got food, cloth, and shelter compared to the poor Roman citizens of Rome, she went to school with Marcus and Lucullus and in Greece the girls weren't aloud to go to school. Then Iliona had to go to the vineyard where his very brother was working and she sent letters to him but he wouldn't answer, but right when she saw his brother Apollo she saw that she had it easy Apollo looked like he doesn't eat much, and doesn't have much cloth, and looked like he gets punished. So the answer to What was life in ancients Rome? Is it depends in what master you got which nowadays there are no slaves today.

Life for some slaves in Rome was better than a Roman citizen who didn't have a lot of money. It was better because slaves are fed, given clothes, and shelter. For example, in the text “Roman Diary” Iliona states, “Yet where would I run to and why would I try?” Which means that she knows she is going to have a better life there than if she were to run away. Also, the slaves aren’t chained, so they could run away at anytime. On contrast slaves on the fields were treated a lot worse. For example, Apollo states that he isn’t getting fed enough, his clothes are always dirty, they treat them horrible, and they also have to work long hours. He also had red marks on his ankles which shows he was most likely chained up. In summary, some slave lives were really good while others can be really bad.

In the text ¨Roman Diary¨ written by Richard Platt it gives information about what life was like for slaves in ancient Rome. For example, the main character, Iliona was sold as a tutor for a family. She lived in a nice house while her brother Apollo was sold to work on a vineyard and was not treated well. In the text it states that Apollo was skinny, had bruises on his arms, and had a red scar on his left ankle. And Iliona had food and clean clothes. Iliona was concerned for her brother because while she was in a nice house with a family to care for her, her brother was working for someone who didn't care for him. Depending on where slaves lived depended on how they were treated.

What was life like for slaves in ancient Rome? Life for slaves in Rome was cruel because you had work hard get no rest eat little bit of bread and olives and like Apollo, he was a brother of a girl named iliona they were separated because in the text it says “i can speak fluent Latin”, Preferring to her. But that’s something different so back to Apollo he was a boy who was put into slavery by pirates and same with iliona, Apollo was put into working to a vineyard where you had to pick all the stuff in the vines and if you did something bad they would punish you. And since iliona wanted to see here brother she told her master can i see my brother and they let them meet so when the met it shows in the text. “When the bailiff finally arrived with the boy, i stared and blinked. Was this Apollo? Only when he said my name i was sure”. And he could only speak when the bailiff nodded he could speak. But on the other hand iliona, she was treated fine but had to work to she had to help kids that the masters knew so she taught them Latin. So life in Rome for a slave could be treated nice or bad and hurt and worked so much.

From the story Roman Diary, I know what was the life like for slave in ancient Rome. In the story the character’s Iliona and her brother Apollo both of they were born in Greek. Iliona and her family was sail to Egypt from their home Greek, but their ship was attacked by pirates. Her parent were killed, Iliona and Apollo were taken to Rome where they were sold as slaves. First Iliona and Apollo cried and worried about the life as slaves in Rome. But this family was kind, and Iliona had the nice life. She had food, clothes, and she had time to rest when tied. Apollo worked at different place at Rome, when Iliona seeing him, he looking like so bad. Apollo thinner, he had bruises on his arm and a red scar around his ankle. Apollo said he was nice and people treated so good with him. But before talked, he looked at the man in there and waited the man nodded, he started to talked. Now we can see slave in the Rome doesn’t bad at all, peoples treat good or bad depend mainly on where you’re live.

  10. The story, “Roman Diary”gives information about what it was like for slaves in ancient Rome. For example the main character, Iliona, was sold as a tutor for a family and she was treated very good they gave her food, clothes and shelter. But then she was separated from her brother Apollo who was a slave at a fram and was not treated will he got less food and no shelter and bad dirt clothes and he was beaten if he was doing something wrong he was in chains and all the bad things they didn't stare like this they were a family but pirates killed there parents and kidnapped them to become slaves . Also that slaves who live with a family are treated good but the ones how work at the frames are treated so badly that the could kill them.

  11. In the story,"Roman Diary," gives me information about what life was like for slaves in ancient Rome. For example, the main character, Iliona, was sold as a tutor for a family. She lived in a nice house which wasn't bad because she had enough food to eat every day and clean clothes, but for Apollo slavery was difficult for him they didn't have enough food, or clean clothes they worked all dawn, which tells me that both of them had a very different life.

In the story Roman Diary slaves life in rome depends on which master or kepper you get. In this story a girl named IIiona lives in Greece but on a while on a trip to Egypt there parents get killed. She and her brother get sold into slavery. While they get sold at slavery they get separated. .Her brother Apollo says is having a rough time in the vineyard. I know this because in the text it states that apollo says” Im fine they treat us well here the work is not so hard”. But lydia knows that he is not fine because he in lliona thoughts she explains how his brother smelled like a goat, his hair was greasy, his clothes was dirty and he had a big scar on his leg. In contrast, IIiona had a nice house, helped as a tutor , could go to school, had clean clothes and had enough food. This shows how different masters of the slaves could treat you different depending of what you work for.

The story “Roman Diary”, gives information about what life was like for slaves in Ancient Rome. In the story “Roman Diary”, Iliona was made into slave but her life was good because her mistress only bought her because she could be a tutor for her daughter lidia. She had a good life because she had shelter, food, and she was safe. For her brother Apollo it wasn’t too good for him. His life was hard because he worked in a vineyard. His master didn’t supply him with enough food and if he did anything bad, he would get hit. The life in a safe place was better than being in a vineyard and getting beaten up. In conclusion, life for Roman citizens who were poor had worse lives than people who work for rich people.

In the story “Roman Diary,”by Richard, illustrated by David Parkins, the author show lives for slaves in ancient Rome. For example, the main character, Iliona who got bought by a family to be a tutor for a little girl named Lydia. Life was good for Iliona in the text it states “ here I have clothes, my stomach never aches with hunger, and I can rest when i’m tired.” On the other hand Iliona’s brother Apollo, was bought to work on a vineyard. When Iliona saw her brother she saw that he was in bad shape, he had scars on his leg, and bruises, and his eyes were red. Apollo had to look at his bailiff to speak to Iliona, later on Iliona found out that her brother only ate bread and olives, and worked till morning and night. She asked about his leg, and he said that one of them tried to escape and they thought that everyone knew about this escape, so they put chains around their legs and had to work like that. Iliona got to get her brother out, but that's how slaves lived in ancient Rome.

  15. In the story “Roman Diary” gives info about what happened back in the day and what happens to the slaves if they don't behave and are being disrespectful to their boss. A girl named Ilona and her little brother Apollo had to go to rome. When they got there they couldn't have the same master and they had to go far away from each other. When they saw each other Apollo had a red thing on his ankle and he looked very tired and he had a black eye. Soon Ilona became friends with two black dogs. Her boss told her that they were black because if there was an intruder they wouldn't see the dogs because they would be hiding in the shadows. Then there was a fire and Ilona saved the baby. After that she couldn't remember anything. Since she did that her and her brother gotta go and don't have to come back but they wanted to stay there because they took good care of them.

Life for slaves in Ancient Rome was depended on where they worked and how the masters would treat therm. The story “Roman Diary” by David Parkins is about a girl named Iliona who was captured by pirates and her and her brother, Apollo, were sold into slavery. Iliona was sold as a tutor. Her life as a slave wasn’t bad since her masters would treat her well. She had a nice home, food, clothes, and freedom(not to escape, but to walk around). Apollo’s life compared to her though was rough. He didn't have a nice place, didn't have much food, didn't have many clothes, and didn't have freedom at all. Compared to each other, Apollo’s life was rough and Iliona’s life was good. A fire started where Iliona’s master’s baby was. Iliona runs in to save the baby since nobody else was. A few days after, one of her masters died and there was a letter her master wrote which said “For her bravery in saving my baby daughter from certain death in the flames of a house fire, I set free my slave Iliona immediately. I also set free her brother, Apollo, who shall be reunited with his sister. In addition, I give Iliona each year the sum of one hundred demarii(Roman Coins).”. She was set free, yet she wanted to stay since she had nowhere to go. She stayed with her old masters and now she had a home and a family.

In the book Roman Diary it gives information about what life was like for slaves in ancient rome. For example, the main characters, are Iliona, was sold as a tutor for a family. She lived in a nice house. She got food water and clear clothes, butIliona is sad because she had been separated from her brother apollo. Her brother apollo went to slavery and it was bad. He got treated poorly got no new clothes and he got beat when he talked about something bad or did something bad. One day apollo sent a letter to Iliona and he told her to go to the huts in 2 nights so she went. He was all beat up he had bruises everywhere and had a scar on his left ankle. Before he could speak the guard had to nod yes. A couple days later there was a big fire in the house Iliona was in. She was able to save a male baby from the burning house. She was able to get out of slavery and she wanted apollo to get out and he did. Then they talked about returning to greece and on the boat if pirates came the same thing would happen again.

  18. In the story “Roman diary” gives information about what life was like for example, the main character, Iliona, was sold as a tutor for a family. She lived in a nice house with a nice owner, and she had good cloths food and shelter. Iliona said that there's no point in running away because she already had a good life being a slave and even if she did run away from her owner she couldn't go anywhere and she would be better off just staying a slave. But she’s still sad because her little brother got sold and moved to a farm where he gets beat if he doesn't do something completely right. Iliana and her owner needed to go to the farm for work, apollo also lives there, The owner brings Iliona and they stay there for a week and Iliona sees apollo and she says “how are you doing” and apollo answer and says “ they treat us well and feed us” with no emotion and then he says he has to go then hes says in greek I miss you and I have to go. Then later that night apollo brings a bone with writing on it and it says go to him in 2 nights. Iliona has no idea how apollo found her but she goes. They talk about what's been happening to him at the farm where he works, he says they beat him and the others. Then apollo pushes her out and Iliona sprints back to her room...

  19. Life in Ancient Rome as a slave was different from other countries. Not all people had it the same. For example in “Roman Diary”, Iliona and her brother Apollo were sent to Rome to be sold as slaves. Iliona and Apollo were seperated,so Iliona went to go work/live with her mistress and was a tutor for her children. Apollo was living at a farm where laborers live and worked at the vineyards. Iliona learns many stuff while she’s living with her mistress. For example she went to school and learned how the water works in Rome. The day finally came when she met her brother. For a second Iliona thought, “was that her brother,?” because he sure changed. He had gotten skinnier and had bruises on his arms and scars. At that time Apollo couldn't tell Iliona the truth, but then Iliona finds out. Her brother was a prisoner and work eight days a week. Iliona nearly lost her life the other day because she rescued a baby and everyone kept telling her that was a brave thing she had done. At the end her master and mistress were happy of her work so they decided to free her brother, so that they can be reunited.

  20. The story Roman Diary gives us information about how life was for slaves in Rome. for example the main character Iliona was sold as tutor for a family. She lived in a nice house and she had nice clothes and she had food to eat and her job she did not need to do that much. Then when she went to the country to see apollo so when she saw him he was all durty he had rashes and bruises all over him and a sruse on his right ankle also when Iliona tried to talk to apollo he had to ask permission. The Iliona realises that her brother was sold on a vineyard and was wiped if he did something wrong
